David leads Gemic’s Social Impact practice from our offices in Abu Dhabi and New York.
His work focuses on education, community development, sustainable real estate, social innovation, and public health. Clients include governments, foundations, impact investors, educational institutions, property developers, healthcare organizations, and other mission-oriented businesses.
He comes to this work from a career in global higher education as a Professor at Harvard and a Fellow in the Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School. For nearly two decades, he has advised and collaborated with visionary leaders and senior executives on multiple continents. His research and writing have been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Social Science Research Council, and he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago, where he serves on the Alumni Board of Directors.

Elisabeth is a Partner based in Gemic’s Toronto office, where she co-leads Gemic’s health practice. Over the last ~16 years, she has been a strategic partner to pharmaceutical, med tech, health delivery and consumer health organizations – from startups to the largest and most established organizations globally.
She was worked in over 35 conditions, and guided multiple teams to address the needs of patients, caregivers, HCPs, payers and other health ecosystem players through novel services, products, supports and communications.
Elisabeth holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Toronto.

Mara is a Partner in Gemic’s New York office. By uncovering what’s meaningful to consumers across different industries, she leads organizations to better business decision-making. Her work at Gemic involves two main functions: 1) immersing herself in the worlds of everyday people to explore changing relationships to things like health, money, time, identity, and technology; and 2) developing commercial strategies out of a deep understanding of the human experience.
Before joining Gemic, Mara’s advisory work spanned projects ranging from designing an innovative operating model for a new university in an emerging market to developing a human-centric go-to-market strategy for a big data consultancy. A teacher at heart, Mara is a former professor who developed award-winning courses on anthropology and global health & health policy at Harvard University. Mara is also a flying trapeze instructor. She holds a PhD in religion and the history of medicine from Harvard and a BA in physics from the University of Redlands.

Harper is a Partner based in Gemic’s New York office. She has spent the past two decades leading global ethnographic research, working with R&D to conceive award-winning new products and brands, guiding legacy brands towards reinvention, and improving brand strength for Interbrand ranked top brands. As a partner at Gemic, she employs foresight methodologies and change management tools to inspire client cultures to seize commercial opportunity.
She has worked across category, from CPG to health, tech to media. Prior to Gemic she led brand strategy for the MINI brand which increased in strength by 35% during her tenure. She was also part of the launch team of the very first all-electric MINI.

Jun is a Partner in Gemic’s New York Office, where he brings 20 years of experience in research and product development in communications, digital media use, automotive mobility, and home life.
His long career has been defined by a desire to understand why people embrace, reject, and in some cases, appropriate technologies in unanticipated ways. At Gemic, this translates into a desire to help companies reimagine the ways technology might change how people work, socialize, and connect to one another.
Jun has a Master’s degree in Design from the Institute of Design and an BA in Neuroscience and Behavior from Columbia University and has lived abroad in Seoul and Copenhagen before returning to New York.

Rebekah is a Partner based in Gemic’s New York office, where she spans all 3 practices: Social Tech, Brand-Led Growth, and Health. She answers big cultural questions about how we live today and where we are headed based on theories and evidence of behavioral patterns, in order to develop specific strategies on product, brand, policies, and innovation.
She holds a PhD in Anthropology from UCLA and a BA from Northwestern University. Before Gemic, she worked in international human rights, public policy, public health, and political consulting, and has won several fellowships for her interest in applied anthropology, including the Fulbright, Jacob K. Javits, and Congressional Bill Emerson fellowships. She has several publications from her prior academic life, as well as recent publications with clients in the fields of health and tech.
Having lived in multiple countries—the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Argentina, Korea— as well as in all regions across the US—she enjoys being an anthropologist 24/7. With her family, she enjoys running, skiing, climbing, and tennis.

Jere is a Partner based in Gemic’s Abu Dhabi office, where he advises leaders on hospitality, education, and culture strategy development. He believes that a good strategy is anchored in a deep understanding of local culture and organisations, and grounded in a progressive vision of the future.
He holds an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Prior to joining Gemic, he worked in a variety of fields – ranging from construction and nursing to manufacturing and foreign affairs – which taught him to intuitively connect pragmatic know-how with abstract theoretical knowledge. Wherever he is in the world, he likes to start his day with a run, soaking in all he can of the local air and culture.

Johannes is the Founder and Chairman of Gemic. Based in New York, he advises executives in fashion, automotive, tech and FMCG on how to respond to cultural, structural and behavioral change.
To do this, he believes in starting with the right questions: What business are banks really in? What role do “indulgences” actually play in our lives? Where is the value in being an “iconic” brand? In helping executives arrive at the right questions, Johannes has helped top-tier companies define their markets and create meaningful value for shareholders and everyday people.
Johannes received his Master’s degree in Business and Culture studies from Copenhagen Business School and studied at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Besides serving as a mentor across Gemic’s professional and intellectual community, he is an avid Arctic skier.

Sakari is Gemic’s Co-Founder. Based in the Helsinki office, he helps technology companies humanize emerging technologies and reimagine the future of customer experience.
He believes in leveraging insight from the world of biological governance, bioinformatics infrastructures and cultural theories of the non-human and technology to develop the kind of experience strategy, new business models and future scenarios that guide clients towards actionable and prosperous tomorrows.
Sakari, holds a PhD in Social Psychology and Anthropology from Helsinki University, and a pre-doctoral degree in user-centric design from the Aalto University School of Engineering. He was formerly a Visiting Researcher at the Swedish Institute of Computer Science, a Research Fellow at Austria’s Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Science and an Adjunct Professor in Anthropology at the University of Helsinki. As an active member of the academic community, Sakari continues to publish in scholarly work.

Otto is Gemic’s Co-Founder. Currently based in Helsinki and Abu Dhabi, he has spent the past two decades advising business and public leaders in Europe, North America, and the Middle East on their most pressing strategic challenges.
Otto holds a Master’s degree in Political Economy from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of York (UK).

He believes that close observation and analysis of the gap between language and behavior—between the way we describe our worlds and the way we act in them—yields the deepest insights for innovation strategy.
Patrick holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Working across literary studies and sociology, his doctoral research used ethnographic methods to understand how ideas about the value of literary reading are shifting in the US. Originally from the UK, Patrick also worked as a researcher at the London-based consultancy, Positive Group.
Outside of the office, he enjoys playing football (soccer), writing, and watching films.

Mahesh is a social tech consultant at Gemic’s New York office. His recent work has explored the future of AI and he’s excited by the idea that technology can make people more in touch with their own curiosity and aspirations.
Mahesh has a B.A in history from Yale, where he focused on the history of “subaltern” non-state peoples such as the Romani in Europe and Adivasis in South Asia. Outside of history, he also pursued coursework in urban studies and maintains a deep interest in the impact of physical spaces on our daily lives.
Prior to Gemic, Mahesh taught English in Morocco, worked for an academic journal focused on Industrial Ecology, and wrote for a newspaper about infrastructure in his home state of New Hampshire.
Outside of work, Mahesh enjoys playing squash, reading about architecture, and accidentally exploring new neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

Nadia is a Strategist based out of Gemic’s London office. An anthropologist by discipline and by nature, Nadia believes empathy and deep listening are key to collecting valuable and meaningful insights. She believes in the importance of embedding these narratives within strategy to create a long-lasting and impactful implementation.
Nadia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and Archaeology from the University of Bristol. Prior to Gemic, Nadia worked as a cultural consultant on various projects in the GCC on their national visions and strategies as well as on the Women’s Pavilion for Expo2020 x Cartier.
Senior Advisor
Dave is a consumer insight and market strategy expert with 32 years of experience in identifying opportunities for Procter and Gamble to launch and grow brands and businesses. He was inducted into P&G’s ‘Brand Mastery Society’ in recognition of a life-long career of brand-building. He’s guided the launch and growth of dozens of household-name brands in multiple countries, categories, and market contexts.
Dave’s skills in insights and pattern recognition honed over decades, enable him to rapidly ‘see the wood for the trees’ and highlight where to focus to maximize the value of your ideas for both you and your customers.
Head of Quantitative Research
Luke is the Head of Quantitative, based out of Gemic's London office.
Having spent 12 years honing his craft in generating strategic insight from complex datasets, Luke is in charge of all things quant at Gemic. His expertise spans multiple quantitative methodologies, with a personal preference for consumer segmentation and market landscaping for emerging brands
Luke received a BA in Mathematics and French from the University of Birmingham. He’s never done maths in French.
Senior Strategist
Sara is a Senior Strategist based in Paris. She believes that in this saturated branded world, abundant in easily available goods and services, smart positioning and authentic storytelling are more vital than ever. A former fashion model turned doctoral researcher, she is keen to understand how people wish to represent themselves, and how their aspirations shape their consumer choices.
Sara has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Humboldt Universitat Berlin, and an MA in Branding from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Before joining Gemic, she worked on heritage and emerging luxury accounts for Mejuri, Borghese, Nanushka, and many more.
Strategy Lead
Todd is an innovation and strategy consultant, the author of a book on social policy and the future of work, and an expert in the U.S. and German markets. He draws on his interdisciplinary expertise and global perspective to help clients act on what is not yet common sense.
Todd holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and has been a research fellow at Harvard, Berkeley, and the Freie Universität Berlin. At Gemic, he advises senior leaders in social technology, mobility, and higher education, among other sectors.
Senior Visual Designer
Duo is with the Enablement Team as a Visual Designer, based in Gemic’s Berlin office.
Curiosity and empathy weave through the evolution of design. Being a pragmatic thinker, she believes good visual design tears down the language barriers by translating the intangible, complicated into the tangible, meaningful.
Coming from a Business and Hospitality background, Duo made the leap into Design where she has over 5 years of in-house experience working for startups, an advertising agency as well as freelancing, she had helped brands tell their stories by elevating their visual identity and leading numerous campaigns which reached an impactful, measurable goal. Out of her working hours, she can be found documenting lasting moments on her analogue camera, or appreciating renaissance art in the local gallery.
Senior Strategist
Mei values the power of in-depth, contextualized analysis. She believes that in order to understand the future, it is necessary to trace the long process of how we arrived at where we are. Combining journalistic and academic expertise, Mei is passionate about telling the untold stories of humans and societies by weaving together data in various forms.
Mei is currently pursuing a PhD at Freie Universität Berlin, conducting research on China’s health policies. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Hong Kong and an MA in Modern East Asian Studies from Frankfurt University. Previously, she worked for magazines and TVs in Asia as a reporter and editor, covering sociopolitical and cultural issues in the region.

Alex is a Strategy Lead based on Gemic’s New York office.
He has 5+ years experience identifying new product and service opportunities for F500 companies in tech, food, fashion and automotive. He believes that the future doesn’t just happen – it’s made – and that big companies have the power to proactively shape the future of their industry.
Alex has a bachelors in English from Bowdoin College and an MBA from INSEAD. He loves classic literature and science fiction, and on windy weekends can be found kitesurfing in the harbors of Brooklyn.

Sam is a strategist based in Gemic’s Berlin office.
With a background in psychology and conflict resolution, he values insights produced by a close observation akin to love. His job is to help clients tell stories that are both essential and surprising, driven by the premise that creativity opposes fear. He believes that nouns fill headlines but verbs move the world.
He holds an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from Oxford University and an AB in Social Studies and Psychology from Harvard College. His graduate thesis explored slow technology and the far-out imagination that produces it. Before Gemic, he ran a Berlin-based practice for clients seeking to forge community through digital tools, from humanitarian NGOs to design studios.
A writer at heart, he admires how words coax dreams into reality. He previously worked at the largest peacebuilding NGO, where he partnered with activists across 30 countries on media projects to prevent violence. He loves jigsaw puzzles, morning runs, and blue glass. Outside the office, he enjoys sitting on balconies on warm summer nights and wondering how jellyfish see the world.

Xara is a Strategist based in Gemic’s Berlin office.
She seeks opportunities to facilitate graceful movement between scales of analysis, evading echo-chambers while tending to granular detail amid complex social phenomena. Holding a BA in English Literature from UCL and an MPhil in Social Anthropology from Cambridge, she has learned to braid attentive close reading, ethnographic methods, historical, and narrative analysis. Her research has focused on epistemology and Science and Technology Studies.
Previous experience in a Commercial Unit at the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care has propelled her to seek work at intersections of private and public sectors.

Louis attempts to understand the mainstream by examining obscurity. He enjoys examining the complex phenomena through the lenses of his three passions: food, theology, and the Internet.
Before joining Gemic, Louis juggled between technology policy, AI/ML ethics, and chopping cabbage at Eaten Alive — a beloved kimchi factory in London.
Louis holds a BA in Theology, Religious Studies and the Philosophy of Religion from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in the Social Science of the Internet from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford. He also trained as a chef at Leiths School of Food and Wine.

As a consultant in Gemic’s Social Tech practice, Carmen works with leading tech companies to help them better serve their users. She has done extensive research across the US and the world to understand the needs of groups including teen social media users, global AI creators, and young music listeners - and bring their stories to life for her clients and their stakeholders.
A graduate of Harvard College, Carmen has pursued her passion for language and culture by studying Linguistics and Comparative Literature. She brings varied professional experience that ranges from research for international non-profits in Latin America to creative work at a luxury travel start-up in Spain.

Eve is a Strategist based in Gemic’s London Office
An anthropologist by training, she believes that to make sense of human behaviour we need to understand the behaviour of the objects that surround us.
Eve holds a BA in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Oxford and an MA in Material and Visual Culture from UCL’s Anthropology Department, where she researched human-thing interactions through craft.
Prior to Gemic, she worked for an educational children’s podcast series. Outside of the office, Eve enjoys making woollen accessories for her friends or tree-spotting.
Senior Advisor
As senior advisor at Gemic, Rowland advises clients on brand, growth, organizational design, marketing communication, crisis management, and product strategies. He has founded two startups and created products and branded experiences for companies in banking, technology, financial services, the arts, interiors, and fashion.
He has been recognized for design while leading photo sharing startup Linea by Fast Company and Forbes. His work has been nominated for an Emmy, and holds a M.A. in philosophy from K.U. Leuven, Belgium. Rowland lives in Manhattan, New York.
Visual Designer
Zach is with the Enablement Team as a Visual Designer, based in Gemic's New York office.
He applies design thinking and abstraction to help clients unlock more sophisticated and meaningful forms of communication. Zach's experiences in graphic, motion, and UX/UI design have honed his ability to translate strategies into tangible, visual solutions.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Before Gemic, Zach designed for global clients at agency and in-house environments. Outside work, you can find him playing soccer, walking his dog, or exploring creative coding.

Ramya believes in the power of interdisciplinary approaches to uncover new and profound insights from the neglected spaces between fields and traditional modes of thinking. She has a MA and PhD in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley and a BA in Peace and Conflict Studies, South Asian Studies and Anthropology from the University of Toronto. In her academic work, she sought to approach her research questions from all angles and developed cross-cutting expertise in ethnography, media studies, visual culture, transnational studies and legal studies. Outside her academic work, she has worked on applied research projects in Canada, India, Sri Lanka and Kenya, worked as a university lecturer across 5 departments and 2 institutions and worked as a creative strategist for a legal startup. Her latest projects at Gemic have provided strategic insights informing communications, product innovation and target segmentation for CPG and Pharma clients.

Jana is a sociocultural anthropologist working at the intersection of ethics and politics. Before joining Gemic, she spent a decade exploring the affective and ethical dimensions of boycotts and “buycotts” in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
Jana believes that it is important to think of ethics as people centered and culture driven, an approach that helps her shape strategy for global markets and offer unique insight into the values that drive consumer choice.
Jana holds a BA in political science and human geography from King’s College London and a PhD in sociocultural anthropology from Central European University, and continues to remain active in academic spheres, both teaching and publishing.

Martyn is a Director of Strategy based in Gemic's Berlin office.
He is a cultural strategist who decodes how shifts in culture to translate into valuable opportunities for innovation, branding and business creation. He has helped scores of companies in technology, luxury, mobility and consumer sectors soar, leading global insight and strategy for clients like BMW, Meta, Microsoft, P&G Ventures, Rolls Royce, Fiskars, Royal Copenhagen, Arla and Unilever.
Martyn holds a Master’s degree in strategic product design from TU Delft, Netherlands, and a post-graduate degree in business administration from WITS, South Africa.

Abdullah is a Director of Strategy based in Gemic’s Abu Dhabi office.
He brings over 8 years of education and strategy consulting experience. He believes that strategies are most impactful when they create learning organizations that are able to self reflect and proactively respond to change. Deliberate learning, whether at the individual, organization or system’s level, is always at the heart of his work.
Abdullah holds a BA in International Relations from Brown University and an MBA from the Quantic Institute of Business and Technology. He has worked on improving and reforming education systems and organisations across several countries, including the UAE, KSA, Jordan, Pakistan, and Lebanon.
Senior Strategist
He believes that questions around technology, media, and how we navigate the world are all fundamentally intertwined. By appreciating how we both shape, and are shaped by, the tools and products we use, he hopes to design solutions and strategies rooted in care.
Leo hold’s a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from Yale, and a Master’s in Film from Oxford. He’s previously worked in advertising and served as a brand manager in the startup world. He also frequently writes essays on technology and media, loves playing folk music, and has been slowly learning how to make pottery.

Previously Associate Partner at McKinsey Design. Served global companies on building up Design capabilities and launching customer, employee and patient experiences, and new products and services. Before that Design Director and Chief Product Officer. Graduated from Zurich University in Product Design and HEC Paris in Business Innovation.
Senior Strategist
Devika believes a multi-disciplinary perspective is key to understanding human decision-making outside of a one-dimensional, homo economicus framework. In her work, she delivers growth strategies that sit at the intersection of generations, cultures, and spaces, with an understanding that sustainability has to underpin any system bent on success.
Devika graduated with Special Honors in International Relations and Global Studies, Economics, and Plan II Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to joining Gemic, she led research in sustainability, circularity, and international environmental regulation at an Austin-based research lab. When she’s away from her computer, Devika can be found testing new blends of hojicha tea at home or creating something new at the local pottery studio
Director of Strategy
Emily sits at the unique intersection of strategic thinking and product development, working with clients to solve for system change, rather than symptoms. Emily has spent the last 9 years fostering meaningful relevance and sustainable growth for clients around the world, in industries such as public health, transit, banking, and technology.
She graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelors of Industrial Design. Prior to Gemic, she worked as a Design Strategist at Fjord. At the start of the pandemic, she enrolled in a tour of duty with the Canadian Federal Government to support the pandemic response, where she partnered with top leadership in Canada to develop and deliver key digital initiatives.

Christian believes in the power of holistic insight to drive the creation of valuable futures. Attentive to the productive interspace between what is, and aspiration, he helps clients uncover lived experiences of consumers as well as emergent perspectives that shape tomorrow's world.
Christian received his PhD in Anthropology from the London School of Economics. Prior to Gemic, he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Germany where his research explored dynamics of cultural change, radical uncertainty and urban transformation.

Nhu is a Strategy Lead based in Gemic’s New York Office.
While she has worked in many sectors, she has particular expertise in tech— where she has helped clients make sense of online communities, digital behaviors, and the ways they reveal, refract, and even forecast societal changes. As a writer and former journalist, she is also passionate about leveraging storytelling to make the needs of emerging and traditionally underrepresented consumers real and strategically actionable to companies.
Nhu holds a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University and an M.A. in Global Affairs from Tsinghua University, which she attended as a Schwarzman Scholar. Prior to Gemic, she worked with governments and multilaterals to design and evaluate behavioral interventions in Southeast Asia.

Michele has led large-scale innovation and strategy initiatives across finance, non-profit, and international organizations. She leads from the belief that long-term thinking is necessary to drive sustainable change that benefits profit, people, and planet.
Prior to joining Gemic, she led payments strategy and partnerships at the Royal Bank of Canada, driving the digital transformation of payments and e-commerce.
Michele holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Development from the University of Guelph, and a Master of Global Affairs from the University of Toronto.
Strategist
A decade in Philosophy taught her that there is no uninteresting question. Her passion is to seek the hidden assumptions of any theoretical system or cultural phenomenon, unhinge them, and find alternatives. She believes that radical evolution requires analytic rigour, intellectual courage and a convincing, overarching vision of complexity. Her research has focused on responsibility for beliefs, virtue theory and normativity.
Giulia holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Warwick and is a member of the Advisory Board for the ERC project The ethics of doubt at the University of Southampton. Prior to Gemic, she was a postdoc in Helsinki and a visiting scholar in Los Angeles, Chicago and Berkeley.

Coming from a small liberal arts college, Chloe recognizes the value of collaboration between individuals with various academic backgrounds, skillsets and problem-solving approaches. She believes that this kind of collaboration fosters continual learning, empathy and innovation, engendering effective business strategies and strengthening connections among the team members behind them.
Chloe holds a BA in Politics from Pomona College in Claremont, CA. She has experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, and data analytics. In her spare time, Chloe can be found eagerly searching for the best chocolate chip cookies and pastries in New York.

Laura is a global researcher and human insights expert. Trained in anthropology, semiotics, and filmmaking, she specializes in using ethnography and social theory frameworks to illuminate overlooked, unknown, and emergent facets of lived experience. She is committed to building groundbreaking business strategy on the basis of real human emotion, desire, and need.
Laura holds a PhD in Anthropology from New York University, as well as an M.A. from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
Digital Lead
Benjamin is a Digital Lead working across Gemic’s offices and verticals.
With a background spanning cultural analysis, strategy consulting, and full-stack development, he brings together diverse ways of thinking to empower Gemic’s project teams in the areas of Data and Development.
In Data, Benjamin helps teams harness the potential of large-scale data approaches—drawing on techniques such as machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI—while ensuring these methods remain grounded in Gemic’s social science DNA. In Development, he leads the creation of innovative content delivery formats, building platforms and web applications tailored to client needs. He also works to integrate and automate workflows across Gemic’s broader tech stack.

Catherine is a Senior Strategist based in Gemic’s Abu Dhabi office.
Specialized in educational and public sector strategy and change management, she has worked on national priority projects, from education system transformation to mapping out the future of sustainability.
She brings over 10 years of marketing and communications experience, developing and managing behavioural and perceptual change campaigns for brands, non-profits, and government entities.
She holds an MBA from the University of Bologna, Italy, and a Master’s in Communication from Swinburne University, Melbourne.
Senior Strategist
Casey is a consultant who combines a thorough background in the social sciences with theoretical and practical training in machine learning and software engineering. At Gemic, Casey works closely with project teams to manage, analyze and visualize their data helping them move adeptly from fieldwork to analysis. He also develops data solutions that enable Gemic to incorporate and make the most of computational methods whether as part of project workflows or innovative deliverable formats. Iida is a Senior Strategist based in Gemic’s Helsinki office.
She is a consultant and researcher with over a decade of cross-sector experience in education and social impact, having worked as a teacher, scholar, lecturer, and an advisor to companies, public sector entities, and NGOs. Specializing in people-centric, value-based strategy, Iida leverages her expertise in collective emotions, learning, youth culture, and critical thinking to help organizations create authentic, lasting impact. On the side, Iida remains active in academic publishing and, as a former competitive artistic swimmer, still enjoys time in the pool.
Iida holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Education from the University of Helsinki.
Senior Strategist
Mariana’s value proposition is rooted in the simple but generative exercise of making the familiar strange. Her work as an innovation strategy consultant draws on her training as an economic anthropologist and organizational ethnographer, as well as on 10+ years of experience as an educator, to facilitate collaborative research and client interactions that result in actionable recommendations and transcendent shifts in perspective.
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Mariana holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Cornell University and was formerly Assistant Professor of Global Commerce at Denison University. Prior to joining Gemic, she spent a year working on a book about Colombian family-owned business conglomerates with the support of the Wenner-Gren Foundation.
Strategist
Lucy is a Strategist based in Gemic’s New York office.
Her expertise in fieldwork, conducting qualitative and quantitative behavioral research, has taught her that the social sciences can reveal the hidden connections between our unique lives. She believes that understanding these connections is key to delivering insightful strategy.
Lucy holds a BA in Anthropology from Yale University. Prior to Gemic, she conducted obesity prevention research with women and children in Samoa. Additionally, she studied primates in Argentina, collecting data in the field and building a quantitative behavioral model. Outside the office, Lucy loves fiber arts, FM radio, and walks in Prospect Park.
Director of Strategy
Behzad believes in the combined power of Social Science and Human-Centered Design to identify new opportunities, while generating the actionable strategies required to unlock them for clients and their customers. Behzad has honed this ability across client-side and agency-side roles, from steering innovation projects detailing new lines of business to the design and de-risking of new products.
He holds a PhD in Socio-Cultural Anthropology (University of Toronto), and specializes in the social study of finance, technology, and identity. Prior to joining Gemic, Behzad led design research initiatives for AI product teams while working at Element AI.
On the weekends, he enjoys cycling with his son.

Allen is an international education and international development expert with experience advising governments and institutions globally.Allen received a MSc in Higher Education from the University of Oxford and a M.A. in International Educational Development from Columbia University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas.

Katalin has spent the last 10 years building brand positions and innovation strategies for leading brands in consumer technology, beer and spirits, and luxury.
She has recently led a number of assignments for Procter & Gamble on reframing P&G’s approach to category expansion. Katalin has also worked on a number of insight and strategy assignments for PepsiCo.
Katalin holds a master’s degree in communication theory from the Berlin University of the Arts.
Research Lead
Liubava supports Gemic teams in finding the most elegant ways to frame projects, as well as conduct research and analysis. She finds it exciting to balance best practices of research with pioneering new approaches, mixing established theories with unconventional interventions. In the quest to answer strategic business questions, it is equally important for her what questions we ask and how we ask those questions.
Liubava holds three master’s degrees, in the philosophy of culture, comparative sociology, and cultural anthropology.
Before joining Gemic, Liubava worked as a researcher at the Center for Science and Technology Studies at the European University at St. Petersburg, taught social science in and outside academia, and organized art events to foster social change.
She is an avid fan of art film: there is a good chance she has been to your local independent movie theatre.

Josh is a Senior Strategist based in Gemic’s London office.
He is obsessed with the art of measuring humans. His interest lies in using quantitative methodologies, disparate data sources, and complex analytics to truly understand the modern consumer.
Josh holds a BA in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford, where he spent time investigating the phenomenon of photic-sneezing for his final research project.
Prior to Gemic, he worked in advanced analytics at Ipsos before honing his craft in strategic insight at Clear M&C Saatchi. Outside of the office, he has a passion for music, Land Rover restoration, and is an award-winning furniture maker.
Senior Advisor
Silvanto spent the past decade working at Apple’s famed Industrial Design team. At Apple, Silvanto oversaw the development of several consumer products that are now integral parts of our everyday lives. He also worked at AirBnB where he built and led an industrial and interaction design team for the Samara initiative.
From his years at Apple, Silvanto learned the ways in which iconic companies build iconic cultures. At Gemic, he hopes to help companies turn their values into strengths.

Sisi is a data scientist and mixed methods researcher who employs quantitative and qualitative methods to understand customer needs and behaviors, and guide business decisions. Among other things, she’s interested in the influence of emergent technologies, especially AI, on how humans live, work, and address the biggest challenges of the modern day (e.g., climate change, disease diagnostics and treatment).
She’s proficient in computational methods and experienced in using machine learning techniques to develop predictive models and extract insights from complex datasets. Her background also includes tech trends analysis, UX research, and human-computer interaction methods.
Sisi holds an MS in Computational Analytics from Georgia Tech and a BA in Mathematics and Economics from Bowdoin College. In her spare time you can catch her sipping on the perfect oat cortado, seeing an art exhibition, doing a nature getaway in Upstate New York, or reading an engaging novel.

Ikumi is a Senior Strategist based in Gemic’s Berlin office.
Growing up in Japan where collective responsibility and unspoken rules play a pivotal role in shaping people’s perceptions and behaviours, Ikumi truly believes that understanding cultural narratives is essential to the success of a brand. A keen observer, her empathy and curiosity towards people and cultures have been instrumental in her ability to help brands develop powerful innovation strategies.
Ikumi holds a Master’s degree in Critical and Creative Analysis from Goldsmiths, University of London. Before joining Gemic, she worked as a consultant at boutique brand strategy agencies in Tokyo and as a brand manager for a music education app in Berlin.

Thaer is a Strategy Lead based in Gemic's Berlin office, specializing in the intersection of technology, education, and social change.
Thaer believes that understanding the historical and cultural dynamics of colonization and capitalization is key to addressing contemporary challenges in education and community development. His work integrates rigorous academic research with practical strategy, focusing on how technological and educational innovations can drive societal progress and resilience.
Thaer completed his PhD at Columbia University, where he also earned an MPhil and an MA in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies, alongside a BS in Applied Physics. His diverse academic background is complemented by hands-on experience in developing education strategies for international organizations and governments across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. This includes pioneering distance learning strategies for the Libyan and Pakistani Ministries of Education, crafting digital learning analyses for UNICEF, and advising on education system transformations and strategic narratives for future interfaith cooperation and major international events like COP28.

Enya believes that the big picture is a mesh of the minute and so-called mundane. Enya strives to decode systems of signification—understanding their externalised manifestations in the wider world, and their internalised meanings in people’s everyday lives. Her original research, including topics such as subcultures and soft power, has honed her ability to translate complexity into coherence.
Enya holds a BSc in Applied Psychology from Glasgow Caledonian University and an MA in Cognitive Semiotics from Aarhus University. She has lived in Canada, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Spain, Denmark, and South Korea. On the weekends, she can be found browsing an art museum.

Olga is part of the Quantitative Consultancy team at Gemic, where she helps integrate quantitative analysis as a key driver of insights across projects.
She holds a BSc in Psychology and Language Sciences from University College London, where her studies focused on applying neuroscience theories to advancements in AI and conducting experiments to enhance training of language models.Olgafurther sharpened her research skills at a quantitative research agency in London, where she helped brands decode modern consumer behaviour and use data to craft meaningful and impactful value propositions.
Outside of the office,Olgaenjoys playing the piano, growing herbs and vegetables (often pickling her harvest), and reading modern Russian literature.

Niamh-Erin (she/her) is Gemic’s EMEA Business Success Manager and is based in Berlin. With experience in office, events and feel good management, she aims to create a dynamic workplace at Gemic that strives for efficient internal processes, a fully equipped onboarding experience, and of course, a well coordinated Berlin headquarters. Niamh-Erin has a background in Art & Culture, and holds a bachelor's degree from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, (2015-2019). She has lived in Ireland, Greece, Spain and Germany and since 2021, has helped run an artistic project space collective called the TURBA Factory in Tempelhof, Berlin. Aija-Rose is Gemic’s Senior IT Manager based in New York.
She aims to translate global systems and regional compliance into a practical day to day. Her priority is the end user—designing process, providing support, and scaling systems with a focus on empathy and efficiency.
Her career spans several industries including arts non-profit, publishing, digital fabrication, private household management, health tech. and management consulting.
On Saturdays she is a volunteer teacher with the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, a local organization dedicated to prosperity through education.

Lindsay is the Senior Human Resources Manager, North America, at Gemic’s New York office, bringing over 20 years of expertise in operations and people management.
With a strategic yet people-centered approach, Lindsay is dedicated to fostering a thriving workplace culture. She specializes in talent acquisition, employee development, and HR strategy, ensuring that Gemic attracts, supports, and retains top-tier talent. Her experience spans office operations, policy development, and implementing impactful people initiatives.
Lindsay has led key global initiatives, including DEI efforts and programs designed to enhance employee inspiration, well-being, and professional growth beyond project work. She also oversees Gemic’s internship program, helping shape the next generation of talent.

Constance serves as COO at Gemic and is responsible for Finance, HR & People, IT, Legal & Compliance and Project Operations for our offices world-wide. She is currently based in Berlin.
Constance believes in human connection, data-based decision making and efficient process design to solve problems, reach strategic goals and create an environment that serves a company’s purpose and people alike.
Constance holds a BA(hons) from European Business School in London and has more than 20 years experience in the field of operations.

Sam is Gemic’s North American Business Success Manager, based out of Gemic's New York Office.
He is inspired by a person-centered approach to resolving problems and believes in the implementation of a holistic environment that helps employees feel their best at work. Sam has occupied different operational roles in various settings including healthcare management, arts administration and different establishments in the non-profit sector. Past experiences in these settings have instilled him with a myriad of skills that he uses towards managing people and culture, enabling policies and procedures and maintaining accountability of operational systems.
Sam graduated from the State University of New York in Stony Brook with a Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. In his off time, he appreciates dog walks and cycling and might rarely be found singing one of his original compositions in an artist showcase, somewhere in the city.
